Written on December 14, 2009
Google Inc. is letting employees around the world test what is expected to be its first branded phone ahead of a planned release next year.
The company said in a blog that it is "dog-fooding" (as in eating your own dog food) the phone to get employees who will give it feedback.
"Unfortunately, because dogfooding is a process exclusively for Google employees, we cannot share specific product details," the company said in the blog. "We hope to share more after our dogfood diet."
The TechCrunch blog, however, reports that Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) plans to control every aspect of what the phone offers by selling it "unlocked," meaning it can be used with any service Internet Payday loans.
It quotes an unnamed source as saying it is "really, really fast," runs on a Snapdragon chip, "has a super high-resolution OLED touchscreen, is thinner than the iPhone, has no keyboard, and two microphones."
Both TechCrunch and the New York Times report hhe phone is being made by the Taiwanese company HTC.
