Allstate: Kansas City-area drivers rank among safest in U.S.
Written on September 4, 2010
Kansas City-area drivers have gotten worse since last year, but they still put the area in the top fifth of cities, according to the 2010 Allstate America’s Best Drivers Report.
And splitting things down the state line, drivers on the Kansas side are slightly safer than on the Missouri side.
The Thursday report from Allstate (NYSE: ALL) ranked 200 of the largest U.S. cities using car collision frequency data.
Kansas City, Kan., ranked 27th, down from a No. 15 ranking in 2009. Its drivers are about 9.6 percent less likely than the average U.S. driver to get into a fender-bender.
Kansas City, Mo., nabbed a No. 31 ranking, a notch below last year’s 30th finish. Drivers there are 8.3 percent less likely than the average U.S. driver to have an accident.
The nation’s safest drivers are in Fort Collins, Colo., where drivers’ accident likelihood is nearly a third less than the national average.
Wondering about the nation’s worst drivers? Stay away from Washington, D.C., where drivers are nearly twice as prone to accidents as the average U.S. driver — every 5.1 years.
